Diageo's History of Responsibility

Diageo's History of ResponsibilitySince the 1930s …

Diageo has a long and proud tradition of leadership in promoting responsible drinking and fighting alcohol misuse, raising consumer awareness and both setting and maintaining world class standards in responsible marketing.
Some of the company’s earliest recorded activities date back to the 1930s, when one of our predecessor companies, Joseph E. Seagram and Sons, Inc. ran a series of print advertisements in the US, exhorting consumers not to misuse their brands.

Today …

This tradition continues today with innovative and progressive campaigns running throughout each and every Diageo region, using marketing expertise to help raise awareness and create a more positive role for alcohol in society.
In addition to marketing campaigns, Diageo directly and indirectly supports initiatives to fight drink driving, underage drinking and irresponsible drinking in its top 40 markets.

The majority of these programmes are undertaken in partnership with other organisations including governments, non-governmental organisations, universities, researchers, physicians, law enforcement and the beverage alcohol industry.  We welcome open dialogue with public health authorities, the scientific community and others on responsible drinking and related issues.
Around the world, we have helped establish many social aspect organisations (SAOs) – industry-funded bodies that work to tackle alcohol misuse and promote responsible drinking.  We often work with SAOs to develop consistent voluntary codes of responsible marketing or raise awareness in areas of alcohol misuse.  The countries covered by SAOs in which we are involved accounted for 66% of Diageo’s business by volume in 2007.

And tomorrow …

In December 2007, Diageo celebrated its tenth year as a company.  There are many activities going on around the world to mark this occasion, including the launching of this website.
Over the course of the last 10 years, Diageo has worked with the entire alcohol beverage industry to pool its resources and invest in responsible drinking initiatives.  Looking forward, we will continue to support and build on these activities.
We are fully committed to promoting responsible drinking yesterday, today and tomorrow. All of our marketing initiatives across the globe are tested to ensure that this message is conveyed.

J.P.Morgan.How He Used His Time,Energy,Money: To Control Nation.

J.P. Morgan was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut to Junius Spencer Morgan (1813–1890) and Juliet Pierpont (1816–1884) of Boston, Massachusetts . Pierpont, as he preferred to be known, had a varied education due in part to interference by his father, Junius. In the fall of 1848, Pierpont transferred to the Hartford Public School and then to the Episcopal Academy in Cheshire , Connecticut (now called Cheshire Academy ), boarding with the principal. In September 1851, Morgan passed the entrance exam for the English High School of Boston , a school specializing in mathematics to prepare young men for careers in commerce. In the spring of 1852, illness that was to become more common as his life progressed struck; rheumatic fever left him in so much pain that he could not walk. Junius sent Pierpont to the Azores (Portuguese islands in the Atlantic) in order for him to recover. After convalescing for almost a year, Pierpont returned to the English High School in Boston to...
